Mt. Hood clerks have been given some bad information or poorly relayed information from certain supervisors regarding their bidding rights and opportunities.

Every clerk at Mt. Hood is eligible to bid every assignment in the current vacancy notice with the exception of the tour two AFSM assignments.

The tour two AFSM assignments are being posted for administrative reasons. After the posting they will be offered to employees who have retreat rights to the tour 2 AFSM section.

One clarification for tour one employees. Retreat rights are only granted to those employees who remain in section and are involuntarily reassigned in January. However, those reassignments will be to the residual assignments that remain after the bidding process. Generally it is in your best interest to bid and choose for yourself the assignments that meet your needs and not wait to be involuntarily assigned to the leftovers.

Due to the Cyber Intrusion, the ability to reset pin numbers and passwords was temporarily removed. As of yesterday, access has been restored, but the new pin number or password must be mailed to the employee.

Please advise employees to call back to the HR Shared Service Center at 1-877-477-3273, Opt. 5, so that a representative may assist.

A PostalEase worksheet may also be completed to elect insurance if the employee has the enrollment code for the health insurance plan they wish to elect. The PostalEase worksheet can be obtained by doing a Google search for “PostalEase worksheet 2014”.

We are running out of time-On January 5^th the Postal Service will slow down the mail and end overnight delivery to every address in the country.

The change in delivery standards will cause widespread changes in Portland, PACC, & Mt. Hood.

At least 82 plants are slated for closure including our sister cities of Pendleton, Bend, and Eugene.

We are rallying to bring attention to this drastic change and get the Congress to put a stop to it.

Congratulations to all the recent postal support employees who have been converted to career status as a result of the negotiated memorandum. 31 clerks in Portland are being converted on July 12th.

The maintenance craft has finally reached an agreement that clarifies and improves on the March pse conversion memo. Every maintenance PSE in the nation, over 3,000, will be converted to career in their present installation! This is a tremendous victory and good news for all our maintenance pse members.

Over 60 protesters showed up in support of our efforts to derail the Postal Service’s plan to subcontract out retail services to Staples. The Postal Service is currently planning on subcontracting postal services to the detriment of the postal customers and its employees.

Postal retail clerks are highly trained and skilled workers who are fairly compensated and swear an oath to protect the sanctity of the mail they handle. Staples on the other hand underpays its workers, suffers high turnover and only requires its employees to swear to wear a red shirt when they show up for work. They recently closed over 200 stores without notice and will continue to do so when it suits their needs.

This deal is a direct attack on us as postal workers and is a ploy by the Postal Service to close urban retail units and divert customers to far away Staples stores.

Join us as we rally on May 18th from 3 pm – 4 pm in front of the Staples located on 10251 NE Cascades Parkway (next to Ikea). Staples and the USPS have cut a deal that jeopardizes the sanctity of the mail and thousands of family wage jobs. The deal threatens to close or reduce service at post offices throughout the country.
